Brightness falling,
Ancient light of distant galaxies
Crashing relentlessly,
A catastrophe aeons to unfurl;
Worlds bathed in brilliance
Cast by a thousand suns
Racing to their doom;
Millions of years, billions,
A cosmic blink while
Crawling from the murk,
Lifting eyes to the heavens,
Civilizations rise, empires fall,
Whole species fade away;
Still the novae explode,
Spinning gas and dust into
The shadow of the nebula
So the lovers may park and kiss
And hold each other under
A clear, starry night.

I love watching stars at night; back at home I would spend hours sitting under sky watching these heavenly bodies. This poem is so well – expressed! I am starting to like your poems better than your prose (confused now) lol

I’m confused too! Lol. I never set out to write any poetry at all. I’m not a poet by any means. But you, Serena, and a few others really inspired me, and I find it keeps my creative juices flowing, so to speak. Still, my prose is my focus, but my poems seem to get the greatest numbers of visits and likes.

As always, you did a monumental job with the imagery. In addition, I’ve never read a surprise ending this well done in a poem.
This piece reminded me a bit of Arthur Clarke’s “The Star”. While reading it the music from disc one of Yes’ Tales from Topographic Oceans started running through my head. I never thought I’d refer to those two works in the same paragraph.
Either you have a broad range of influences or you’re a very creative artist. I’m thinking it’s probably some combination of the two.
